My favorite vegan restaurants near me

I switched to a plant-based diet three years ago and I was super nervous on how it will affect my lifestyle. I am so happy that my journey has been extremely easy and Bangkok has so many vegan restaurants and vegan grocery options today. I live very close to Thonglor bts station and there are so many vegan restaurants near my house.

Will vegan restaurants become more mainstream? It is too early to know that answer but there has definitely been a significant increase in vegan menus and exclusive vegan restaurants across major cities in Thailand. There are many options available in Bangkok for people who follow a plant-based diet or a vegan lifestyle. The number of menus and cafes which are becoming meat free in Bangkok city is slowly but steadily increasing after the pandemic.

The Banana Warrior

This is one of my absolute favorite vegan food cafes in the city of  Bangkok. They are conveniently situated in Emquartier which is one of the hippest malls in Bangkok. The cafe is easily accessible from Phrom Phong BTS station.

The tagline of the cafe isFood Inspired By The Light’. They rotate their products and their plant-based menu regularly to ensure that they use the freshest, seasonal, highest quality ingredients from local markets and farmers.

They serve impressive delicacies, from enchilada’s to carrot salmon with vegan cheese, using their recipes. The chef behind the restaurant is very passionate about offering the best foods, both in quality and taste.

She started preparing healthy desserts (all vegan). I have looked and tried almost every type of dessert and they are really awesome. It is almost impossible to pinpoint the best. They have flavors such as raspberries, cookies, and chocolate. Check them on weekends and get one free on Margarita.

The vegan margarita is prepared using vegan tequila with organic coconut cream. It is the best thing you are going to get in Bangkok.

I spoke to Julia Panchkowry recently, she is the owner of the banana warrior cafe and a business consultant. I asked her about the rise of veganism in Bangkok and she said, ”I think people are looking for healthier food and better lifestyle choices. And veganism, if done well helps most people achieve this, even just if it means adding more plants to consumer’s diets”

Carrots: The Vegan Bistro

vegan restaurants near meThis cafe stands out for its services and delicacies, making it one of the best in Bangkok. It is located on the Noble Ora on Sukhumvit Soi 55. When you check their menu, it is so delicious. The dishes are very healthy. The food is also organic.

Their plant-based menu uses healthy and local fresh seasonal vegetables, such as carrots and broccoli, broccoli (all organic) and their dishes are extremely tasty. So, start every morning with their famed Casablancan chickpea omelet, which has super light protein. You can also visit them for dinner or lunch and try butter chicken (vegan version). The chicken is served with rice and bread. You will also get different shakes and coffees and it is the best place to meet friends.

I spoke to Thitima Sudechawongsakul recently, she is the co-founder of the cafe. I chatted with her on what made her start this plant-based cafe and she said, “I started with a vegan bakery at home due to health reasons for my family and me.

I had positive responses from a vegan bakery and so I decided to open a vegan cafe for those who have food intolerances. At Carrots, we want to be a safe space for food intolerant, health-conscious customers and also be an example for setting a "good business " for the society.

She further mentioned, “We are always researching ways to innovate and be environmentally sustainable in our operations. Our main goal is to be creative and fun and show that vegan is not just vegetables and fruits but it can be fun junk, and healthy at the same time without using any animal products and without compromising taste.”

The cafe is also overflowing with greeneries, making it one of the most calming vegan hotels. You will also fancy the cafe’s ambience. It is the best place for relaxing as you sip vegan milks.

This is what Samantha Haberli who is the owner of the restaurant told me, ”My whole life I have wanted to own my own business, and to make a difference in the world. I have been living a plant-focused lifestyle for 8 years now, and when I first gave up meat, there were barely any plant-based options to choose from. She mentioned that she prefers using the term plant-based instead of vegan”

Veg

She mentioned, “It is changing now, but I think that even though there are a lot of “vegan” options now on the market, these options aren’t always healthy. That’s why I prefer the term “plant-based” to “vegan”. To me, plant-based means truly from the earth.

She further added, “No processed ingredients, no added refined sugar, and flour, no ingredients that you can’t even pronounce the names of. And that’s why I wanted to start my own café. I wanted to bring healthy, nutritious plant-based food to Bangkok, and tie in wellness, as well as an educational aspect to it. I think that living plant-based is so much more than the food that you eat. It’s being conscious of where your food comes, of what’s in it, living an active lifestyle, and it’s being aware of the gut-brain connection.”

She concluded by saying, “That’s what I’m hoping to bring with my café and wellness space. We use seasonal, local produce, we use minimally processed ingredients, and we cook with intention and love!”
